Day 8: Lake of Bays Brewing Company's Spark House Red Ale

Ahh, a little foam. I like it. Pretty much a classic red ale, not unlike Rickard's Red, which is fairly commonly available on tap around here. Rickard's on tap is better than this stuff, this stuff in the bottle is better than Rickard's in the bottle.

There is a little more hop than, say Rickard's Red, but it's nicely balanced with the creaminess of the malt, which tastes very lightly of the roasting process. Perhaps a better way to describe this beer using another as a reference point would be to say that it's like a bottle of Newcastle Brown that bites back. And not unpleasantly.

I didn't enjoy this enough to elevate it to full 6 pack status, but want to recognize how pleasant and drinkable it is. It doesn't knock your socks off, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. 5 tankards!
