Day 2: Back Forty Beer Company Kudzu Porter
Another dark, well-roasted, malty porter. I looked this one up, and it has almost twice the IBUs (International Bitterness Units) as the last porter. This caused a little trepidation, since Day 1's Maple Porter wasn't exactly my favourite example in the porter genre.
Pleasantly surprised. It does have a little more bite, but it works. Higher ABV, too. This is just a much, much better beer. It's a little like hot sauce. Heat isn't everything, the flavour has to be right as well.
Porter is only a once in a while thing for me, but I think if I was a porter guy, this might become a go-to. If I lived in Alabama, anyway.
Now, if I lived in Utah, the go-to porter has to be Wasatch Brewery's Polygamy Porter. The name alone puts it into the upper echelon of awesome, but it's actually a very drinkable offering in its own right.
Back to the Kudzu. Almost everything I used to describe the last one could be used here as well. Still a chocolately, coffee thing going on, but the roasting doesn't overpower the other flavours. I'd love to have five more (two more right now, and three for another porter session)
By the way, kudzu is an invasive species of climbing vine that is spreading through the Southern US. Aptly named beer, 'cause it could grown on you.
I will try it!!
